Flowers beside the street

Near to my neighborhood, there is a beautiful street. Two lines of trees with white flowers stand on each side of this street. What a pleasant scene! But it is a pity that I don't know what name this flower is.

"Seraphim Falls" ( movie)

A very good western movie released in 2007.

At the end of Civil War, Carver (Liam Neeson) lost his wife and kids. He then hired four men to hunt Captain Gideon (Pierce Brosnan) in revenge. They chased him from Ruby Mountains to the desert of New Mexico. Smart Gideon got rid of the hunters one by one, and finally he faced Carver. Gideon defeated Carver twice, but spared his life. Eventually, Carver forgave Gideon.

This amazing movie shows us beautiful nature scenes, forgiveness, courage, uprightness and cruelty of war as well.

"Inkheart"(movie)

This is a new movie released recently. It stars Brendan Fraser who is the main actor in "Mummy". Brendan has an amazing talent to bring characters out of books in "Inkheart".

I watch this movie because of Brendan. It seems this is a good adventure movie at the beginning. But just one third of the film passes, I leave the screen. I have to say this movie is very boring.

Barbie

Little girls like Barbie stories, so does my daughter. The story "Island Princess" and "Diamond Castle"is her favorite.

The Barbie story is indeed good. It teach girls courage, love, and optimism. As an adult, I like these stories, too.

The spring break

This week I had a very good rest. Stayed home and watched some movies. I didn't go shopping or vacation. And so I saved money.

Today there was a parade for celebrating St. Patriks Day in downtown. Lots of young people wear green stuff. But there was no show in Station square and it seemed that less people joined the parade in comparison to last year.

Saturday

The weather of this Saturday was very nice, warm and sunny, liked the spring. The shops like Wal-mart, mall were crowded.

It seems that the nice weather stimulated people's will to consume, although we are under the shadow of financial crisis.

steam bread

Yesterday, I made some steam bread for my daughter. Steam bread is snack loved by Chinese people.

It is easy to make steam bread. First, mix yeast and flour, add water, and make it dough. Then let the yeast works until the dough expands to 2-3 times of its' original volume. It is time to place small dough into steam pot. Steam 10 minutes and the steam bread is ready.

a touching movie

This week I watched a very good movie, " Slumdog Millionaire". It is a story about a poor Indian boy, Jamal. 18-year old Jamal attend a TV show "who want to be millionaire" in Mumbai. When he is just one question away from winning a staggering 20 million rupees, police arrest him on suspicion of cheating. Desperate to prove his innocence, Jamal tells the story of his life in the slum where he and his brother grew up, of their adventure together on the road, of vicious encounters with local gangs, and of Latika, the girl he loved and lost. The most wonderful part is how Jamal and his brother struggled to survive after being orphan. Watching their life experience make people tear, and laugh as well.

I strongly recommend this movie.

bookmarking

I have created an account on delicious and bookmarked several web pages. But I still don't quite understand what the meaning of bookmarking is. People bookmark things for sharing with others or for convenience?

The content of chapter 4 and 8 is really dry. I have to push myself to read them, for the sake of my pay for this course and the need of grasping some basic computer knowledge. For a librarian, computer skills are essential.

Chinese new year

Yesterday is Chinese lunar year, the most important holiday in China. At the new year eve, Chinese families eat together to celebrate this festival. But I didn't get the chance. Both of mine and my husband's parents stay in China. We just greeted each other a good luck in the OX year by telephone.

I made a tasty sweet and sour ribs for my Eve dinner.

One more year just past again.

origin of internet

I had never known the history of the internet before I read our textbook. When I asked friends around me, they don't know either.

Thank the U.S. Department of Defense. Because of it, today we can enjoy the amazing internet.

By reading the textbook, I always get surprise. I find exact answers of some questions and vague concepts that I used to be confused.

the new technology is consumer-centric

Every new information technology is consumer-centric. The consumer could be government, companies, or individuals, etc. Why do we develop new technology? The object of new technology is to benefit users in improving efficiency and adding more functions.

For example, the early cell-phones only served as mobile telephone. Later, we could send message, take picture, and play games by 2rd generation cell-phone. In present time, cell-phone can serve as a mini computer. My friend, William, bought an Apple 3G I-phone last year. This new product nearly includes any function one can imagine, such as music, picture, web-browser, games, E-mail. the difference between I-phone and real computer is that I-phone can't apply software and store documents like computers do.

Just try to think if new products can't attract consumers, why people develop it and how the companies sell them to make profit?

electric brain

The computer technology develops fast and diversely, so I believe no one could be proficient in every place of the computer fields.

My brother-in -law is an computer expert. But he is only proficient in his own research field. When counter some problems that are beyond his field, he has to consult his peers.

This course is a challenge for me, since I know little about the computer science. Hopefully, by taking this course, I can learn the computer knowledge that I don't exactly know before.

my first blog

I never write a blog before. I am exciting when I create this account and write on it.

we have to say the computer and internet technology develop so fast in past decades. The computers are becoming more easier to be operated, and they become part of our life.

Nevertheless, I don't understand how these electric devices deal with data and information. To me, this has always been a puzzle.
