bookmarking

I have created an account on delicious and bookmarked several web pages. But I still don't quite understand what the meaning of bookmarking is. People bookmark things for sharing with others or for convenience?

The content of chapter 4 and 8 is really dry. I have to push myself to read them, for the sake of my pay for this course and the need of grasping some basic computer knowledge. For a librarian, computer skills are essential.

Chinese new year

Yesterday is Chinese lunar year, the most important holiday in China. At the new year eve, Chinese families eat together to celebrate this festival. But I didn't get the chance. Both of mine and my husband's parents stay in China. We just greeted each other a good luck in the OX year by telephone.

I made a tasty sweet and sour ribs for my Eve dinner.

One more year just past again.

origin of internet

I had never known the history of the internet before I read our textbook. When I asked friends around me, they don't know either.

Thank the U.S. Department of Defense. Because of it, today we can enjoy the amazing internet.

By reading the textbook, I always get surprise. I find exact answers of some questions and vague concepts that I used to be confused.

the new technology is consumer-centric

Every new information technology is consumer-centric. The consumer could be government, companies, or individuals, etc. Why do we develop new technology? The object of new technology is to benefit users in improving efficiency and adding more functions.

For example, the early cell-phones only served as mobile telephone. Later, we could send message, take picture, and play games by 2rd generation cell-phone. In present time, cell-phone can serve as a mini computer. My friend, William, bought an Apple 3G I-phone last year. This new product nearly includes any function one can imagine, such as music, picture, web-browser, games, E-mail. the difference between I-phone and real computer is that I-phone can't apply software and store documents like computers do.

Just try to think if new products can't attract consumers, why people develop it and how the companies sell them to make profit?

electric brain

The computer technology develops fast and diversely, so I believe no one could be proficient in every place of the computer fields.

My brother-in -law is an computer expert. But he is only proficient in his own research field. When counter some problems that are beyond his field, he has to consult his peers.

This course is a challenge for me, since I know little about the computer science. Hopefully, by taking this course, I can learn the computer knowledge that I don't exactly know before.

my first blog

I never write a blog before. I am exciting when I create this account and write on it.

we have to say the computer and internet technology develop so fast in past decades. The computers are becoming more easier to be operated, and they become part of our life.

Nevertheless, I don't understand how these electric devices deal with data and information. To me, this has always been a puzzle.
